Every so often I feel the urge to draw something much more experimental and less detailed than my usual work. These drawings are loose in form and born out of an idea in my head that I just have to get down on paper.
The experimental nature of it means that I play around with different mediums – graphite, ink and charcoal – and the drawings I produce are stripped back in their detail.
Often I am compelled to draw horses; this stems from a lifelong love of these beautiful animals and a horse-mad childhood helping out at the local riding stables. However, I am drawn to expressing the movement of horses in my sketches rather than the more surface detail of their coat and other features. It is the graceful nature of the horse that is so beguiling – their strength, power and agility.
I have recently set up a new page on my website to showcase a few of my sketches that are for sale. You can take a closer look here.
