Across the board, bumblebees have been struggling to sustain populations, suffering serious declines in numbers and extinction of some UK species. The bee in this drawing is actually found overseas in Canada and the USA. It is a yellow-banded bumblebee and is classified as vulnerable to extinction by the IUCN. Bees are a vital part of our natural systems and along with much of our wildlife, need our help in terms of providing suitable habitat to sustain them. At present there are 24 species of bumblebee in the UK.
